Introduction
Families across the United Kingdom have been asking the same question for months: when is the Bluey movie coming out? The much-loved Australian animated series has become a household favourite, and the announcement of a full-length film sent excitement through fans of every age. Parents who grew up watching cartoons themselves now find their own children glued to the screen for Bluey, which makes the arrival of a cinema release feel like a genuine event. This article walks through the confirmed date, what the film is about, who is involved, and everything else UK audiences need to know before heading to the cinema.
When Is The Bluey Movie Coming Out
The wait is almost over. When is the Bluey movie coming out has now been officially answered by Disney and BBC Studios, who confirmed a global theatrical release on 6 August 2027. The announcement came after months of speculation from fans who had noticed hints dropped by the show’s creators. This date applies to the United Kingdom as well as other major markets, meaning UK families will be able to watch Bluey on the big screen at the same time as audiences elsewhere. The film marks the first time the blue heeler pup and her family will appear in a feature-length cinematic release rather than the usual short episodes fans are used to.
Why The Bluey Movie Has Taken So Long
Many fans have wondered why the transition from television to cinema has taken years rather than months. Producing a CG-animated feature film at this scale requires far more time than a typical seven-minute episode. The production team behind Bluey wanted the movie to feel like a genuine cinematic experience rather than a stretched-out episode, which meant investing heavily in animation quality, sound design, and storytelling depth. Series creator Joe Brumm has spoken about wanting the film to be an experience the whole family can enjoy together in a theatre, and that ambition naturally extended the production timeline.
Who Is Behind The Bluey Movie
The film is written and directed by Joe Brumm, the creator of the original series, which reassures fans who worried the tone and humour might change in the jump to cinema. Ludo Studio, the Australian animation house behind the show, is producing the movie in collaboration with BBC Studios. Amber Naismith, known for her work on Happy Feet and The Lego Movie, is producing the CG animation, while Richard Jeffery, who worked on the television series, is co-directing alongside Brumm. Walt Disney Pictures is handling global theatrical distribution, which is why the film carries such a wide international release rather than a limited one.
The Voice Cast Returning For The Movie
Fans will be pleased to know that familiar voices are returning for the film. Melanie Zanetti continues as Chilli, Bluey’s mum, while David McCormack returns as Bandit, her dad. Having the same voice actors return matters a great deal to long-time viewers, since the warmth and chemistry between the characters is central to what makes Bluey resonate with both children and adults. Series composer Joff Bush is also returning to score the film, which should give the movie the same emotional musical texture that fans associate with standout episodes like The Sign.
What The Bluey Movie Is About
Official details describe the film as continuing the adventures of Bluey, the energetic and inexhaustible blue heeler pup, alongside her parents and little sister Bingo. The story is expected to explore life’s everyday joys and challenges through the imaginative play that has always defined the show, rather than introducing an entirely different format or tone. This approach makes sense given how beloved the series already is; rather than reinventing Bluey for cinema, the creative team appears focused on expanding the world audiences already know and love onto a bigger canvas.
How The Movie Came About
The idea for a Bluey film gained real momentum after the release of the extended episode The Sign in April 2024, which was widely praised by critics and viewers. Series producer Daley Pearson publicly expressed interest in developing a feature film following that response. By December 2024, Disney confirmed it was developing the Bluey movie with Joe Brumm attached as writer and director, and the project was formally announced with a target release window of 2027. The eventual reveal of the exact date, 6 August 2027, arrived later and gave fans a concrete moment to look forward to.
Will The Bluey Movie Be In UK Cinemas
Yes, the Bluey movie is confirmed for a global theatrical release, and the United Kingdom is included in that rollout. Given that Bluey originates from an Australian and British production partnership, with BBC Studios heavily involved, UK audiences have always been considered a core market for the show. Families across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland can expect the film to appear in major cinema chains on or around the confirmed release date, alongside other significant animated releases scheduled for that year.
Will The Bluey Movie Stream On Disney Plus
After its theatrical run, the Bluey movie is expected to become available on Disney+, following the standard pattern for major animated releases under the Disney banner. In Australia, it will also be available through ABC iview and ABC Kids. This means UK families who prefer to wait for a home release rather than visiting the cinema will eventually be able to watch the film through their existing Disney+ subscription, though the exact streaming date will likely follow some months after the cinema debut.
What Makes This Release Significant
The Bluey movie represents a major milestone for a show that started as a modest Australian preschool series and grew into one of the most-watched programmes globally. Bluey topped Disney+ viewership charts in 2024 and has won both Emmy and BAFTA awards, an unusually strong critical reception for a children’s show. The transition to a feature film reflects just how far the series has come, and it places Bluey alongside a small group of animated television properties that have successfully expanded into full cinematic releases.
What To Expect From The Cinema Experience
Given the involvement of experienced animators from major studios, the visual quality of the Bluey movie is expected to be a significant step up from the television series, while still retaining the hand-drawn warmth that fans associate with the original art style. The move to CG animation for the feature film suggests a more immersive visual experience, particularly suited to a big screen setting. Families attending should expect a story that balances gentle humour and emotional depth, much like standout episodes of the show that have resonated with both children and adult viewers.
How UK Fans Can Prepare For The Release
With the date now confirmed, many UK parents are already planning ahead, particularly for families with young children who may want to secure tickets early once booking opens. Cinema chains typically announce ticket sales for major family films several months in advance, so keeping an eye on official Bluey channels and UK cinema listings closer to the date is a sensible approach. The official Bluey website and social channels are likely to share trailers, posters, and further details as the release date approaches.
Conclusion
For anyone still asking when is the Bluey movie coming out, the answer is now clear: 6 August 2027, with a global theatrical release that includes the United Kingdom. The film brings together the original creative team, returning voice cast, and a story that continues the same charm which made the television series a worldwide favourite. With Joe Brumm writing and directing, Ludo Studio and BBC Studios producing, and Disney handling distribution, expectations are high for a movie that stays true to what fans love about Bluey while offering a genuine cinematic experience for the whole family.
